Sonar 2087 is a, World leading new towed sonar system for Royal Navy Type 23 frigates manufactured by Thales Underwater Systems. Sonar 2087 will replace the current Sonar 2031 towed array. Sonar 2087 is a low frequency system and consists of both active and passive sonar arrays. During ORION 08, HMS Westminster, using Sonar 2087, conducted successful anti submarine exercises,in the Indian Ocean. Together with the presence of six Merlin [ 814 Sq, aboard HMS Illustrious ] with their advanced anti submarine equipment, the combination has re-affirmed the Royal Navy,s reputation as a leader in anti submarine warfare.
